Chapter 97 :

Chapter 97

He twisted his head and gripped her wrist tightly.

Thalia held on viciously and dug her nails into the soft flesh.

His reddened face now turned blue.

He thrashed and let out strangled, choking sounds.

Ignoring him, she put strength into her fingers as if she meant to crush his tongue.

At that moment, a sharp scream came from somewhere.

Soon after, urgent footsteps rang out, and someone grabbed her shoulder.

Thalia screamed viciously.

“Let go of me! I’m going to pull out his tongue so he can never say anything disgusting again!”

“G-good heavens! Someone stop her!”

A shrill voice rang out sharply.

Whether anyone did or not, Thalia seized Lucas’s jaw and pushed her fingers in even deeper.

Just as she was digging her nails into the root of his tongue, she felt a strong pressure around her waist, and her body floated into the air.

Panting with rage, Thalia looked back.

Varkas, who had lifted her like a piece of luggage, was sending her an icy gaze.

“What exactly is going on here?”

He looked back and forth between her and Lucas, as if trying to understand the situation before his eyes.

Then Lucas, who had been sitting there blankly as if unable to believe what had happened to him, sprang to his feet.

“T-that woman just tried to pull out my tongue! Look at this!”

Lucas shouted while pointing at her, then stuck out his wounded tongue.

Thalia strained the veins in her neck.

“Bring it here! I’ll tear it out by the roots!”

The boy recoiled in horror and stepped back.

“See? You saw that, right? She really is a madwoman! She’s not in her right mind! Why did you marry a woman like that instead of the First Princess? Even now, you should immediately file for annulment…”

“Lucas Raedgo Siarkan.”

A low voice mixed with a sigh settled heavily over the corridor.

Not only Lucas, but even Thalia, who had been rampaging out of her mind, froze.

After taking a moment to control his breathing, Varkas slowly continued.

“What did you say to my wife?”

“I just…”

Lucas trailed off with a flustered expression.

Looking down at him with cold eyes, Varkas said flatly,

“It seems it was something you cannot say in front of me.”

Lucas’s face turned pale.

The boy rolled his eyes this way and that, then mumbled as if wronged.

“No, even so, who normally goes this far…”

As Thalia glared at him as if she would kill him, Varkas’s frosty gaze flew toward her this time.

Thalia flinched and stiffened her shoulders.

Like an interrogator standing in court, he questioned her.

“Would Your Highness explain the circumstances?”

Thalia looked up at him with eyes full of spite.

When she remembered the insulting words his younger brother had spewed out, her whole body trembled.

He wanted her to say that again with her own mouth?

She spat out through clenched teeth.

“I’d rather die.”

Varkas’s eyes narrowed.

As if gathering his patience, he exhaled slowly and added stiffly.

“You must tell me the reason so I can hand down an appropriate punishment.”

Lucas’s face twisted.

He looked indignant, as though he were being treated unfairly.

Thalia glared at that face as if she would tear it apart, then began twisting her body.

“I don’t need it, so let me go.”

“……”

“Can’t you hear me telling you to let go?”

In the end, he set her down on the floor.

Thalia straightened her throbbing legs and looked over the people gathered in the corridor.

Faces flushed with alcohol were watching them, wondering what had happened.

Revulsion washed over her.

After shooting hostile glares in every direction, Thalia turned and headed toward the bedroom.

The distance of only a few steps felt like a thousand miles.

She struggled to open the door and immediately threw herself onto the bed.

A short while later, Varkas followed her.

Thalia buried her face in the pillow and ignored his presence.

If she did not, she felt she might pounce on him as she had on Lucas and question him like a madwoman.

Is what your brother said really true?

Did you do that kind of thing with Ayla?

“Thalia Roem Siarkan.”

One side of the bed sank, and a deep shadow fell over her head.

Thalia tensed her back.

A rather rough hand wrapped around her shoulder.

Soon, her body was forcibly turned over, and through her tear-blurred vision, a face like a finely sharpened blade came into view.

He questioned her sharply.

“Explain properly what happened.”

“What else is there to say?”

Thalia shot back fiercely.

“You saw everything. I tried to pull out your brother’s tongue, and I failed because of you. What more explanation do you need?”

“Why did you do that?”

“Because I wanted to.”

As if his patience had run out at the childish argument, Varkas’s eyes froze coldly.

He grabbed her chin and said oppressively,

“How long do you intend to behave like a child?”

Thalia twisted her face.

The one who had crossed the line first was Lucas Raedgo Siarkan.

So why was she the one being scolded like this?

Thalia struck away his hand and snapped sharply.

“I only paid back the insult I received. If you want to blame someone, blame your father for raising his child like that.”

He pressed his temple like someone with a headache.

“Revenge is carried out through a representative. Not by charging in yourself like a ten-year-old delinquent.”

“And who will become my representative? Are you going to cut off your brother’s head for me?”

Thalia snorted.

“I don’t expect anything from you. If someone attacks me, I’ll take revenge with my own strength.”

The coldness in his eyes grew even more severe.

“Are you saying you’ll climb on top of another man and get into a dogfight again?”

“I see no reason I can’t.”

Thalia sent him a hostile glare.

“If you don’t want to see that, keep your brother out of my sight. If that brat wanders around in front of me one more time, then I really will make an end of him.”

The furrow between his brows deepened.

At his expression, as if he had a terrible nuisance before his eyes, her fingertips itched.

Suppressing the impulse to claw him all over, Thalia crawled into the corner of the bed and pulled the blanket over herself.

How much time passed?

She sensed Varkas rising.

Before long, the sound of the door closing rang out, and cold silence occupied the room.

Thalia slowly poked her head out and looked around the empty room.

Once she was certain she was alone, the tears she had been holding back burst like a flood.

Biting her lip and swallowing her sobs, Thalia buried her face in the pillow and let out suppressed whimpers.

Then at some point, she seemed to have drifted off.

Thalia opened her eyes in the dim darkness and turned her head with a start at the sound of clinking.

At some point, Varkas had returned and was arranging medicine bottles on the shelf.

As she looked up at him blankly, a quiet gaze flew over his shoulder.

“You kept groaning, so I brought painkillers. Take them and sleep.”

At his calm appearance, as if he had never been sharp with her, a strange suffocation rose inside her.

Thalia pulled the blanket up to the bridge of her nose.

“No need.”

A tired sigh flowed from between his lips.

The somewhat rough motion of sweeping his bangs up showed a hint of impatience.

Was this man also holding back his anger?

Thalia carefully studied his face, dyed by the light.

On his overall pale face, his lips, the only part with vivid color, were frozen cold.

How long had she been staring at them?

Lucas Raedgo Siarkan’s vile voice rang in her mind.

Maybe Brother still can’t forget his previous fiancée?

Thalia bit her lip.

The next moment, before she could even think, an absurd remark abruptly slipped out of her mouth.

“If you feed it to me with your mouth, I’ll take it.”

Varkas, who had been setting the bottle of medicine on the shelf, paused and looked back at her.

Only when she saw his slightly widened eyes did she realize what she had said.
