Chapter 202
“An ex….explosion? What just happened?”
“Uh, it’s the undead!”
Simon, who had stormed the building via Corpse Explosion, immediately opened a subspace and sent out skeletons and zombies to deal with the Hupa tribesmen.
Undead could attack humans regardless of visibility. He had successfully thrown the battlefield into utter chaos.
During that time, Simon’s arm reached toward Maelyn.
“I’ll untie you now.”
Slice!
The blade of Overlord smoothly severed the ropes binding Maelyn’s arms and legs.
Now freed, she rubbed her wrists, the rope marks still clear, and stared at Simon with a strange expression.
“?”
When Simon looked at her as if to ask what was wrong, her face flushed bright red, and she suddenly shouted.
“Why did you come instead of Lord Feon…!”
Simon blinked.
“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”
She turned red up to her nape in fluster.
“No, I mean, I said it backwards! No no, I didn’t mean it like that! …T-thanks for saving me.”
Simon couldn’t make sense of her babbling, but he did understand the final “thank you”, and he gave her a smile.
Cough cough!
“That was quite the flashy entrance.”
From within the dusty cloud, a groaning voice echoed. This time, it was Dick.
“Dick? Turn around. I’ll untie you.”
“I’m good.”
The ropes binding Dick’s arms fell away and dropped into his hands. He had used enchantment on them.
He then easily undid the ropes around his legs and stood up calmly amidst the swirling dust.
Maelyn, pointing at him with a trembling arm, shouted.
“W-what?! You could free yourself the whole time?”
“? Obviously.”
“They’re here!”
Just then, a warrior of the Hupa tribe burst through the dusty haze, sword raised with a shout.
Dick smirked slyly and tightened the rope in his hands with both fists.
“Sorry, but I can’t just stand back now, sir!”
He threw the rope.
It had been tied like a lasso and instantly coiled around the man’s neck, tightening sharply.
“Guhk!”
The warrior dropped his sword in pain and grabbed at the rope. That moment, Dick yanked hard, pulling him in and striking his chin with his knee.
Crack!
The man’s eyes rolled back, and he collapsed to the floor with a thud.
“Dick! One more on your left!”
As Simon shouted, he sprang from the wall and, like a martial artist, shattered a Hupa warrior’s head with a turning kick.
“Wow, no way I could do it like you. But still—”
“Graaaaah!”
A crazed Hupa swordsman raised his sword. Dick, pretending to duel with him using a sword drawn from subspace, secretly tossed a lasso toward the man’s legs.
Whoosh!
Then, slipping between his opponent’s legs in a sliding dodge of the incoming swing, Dick yanked the rope.
Thrown off balance, the man fell face-first and was dragged along the floor.
“The weak have their own ways.”
As Dick snapped his fingers and muttered, a remote enchantment activated on a chunk of metal attached to the ceiling. The metal came crashing down, smashing the ceiling and striking the man on the head.
Thunk!
Rumble rumble rumble!
Dust filled the air again as Dick retrieved his rope and stepped back.
“Do not panic!”
Wichasha shouted.
“That’s Simon Follentia, special admission number 1! You can let the other two go or kill them, but capture him! That’s all that matters!”
The Hupa’s real target had never been Dick or Maelyn, it was Simon.
Keyzen was such a colossal organization that abducting two first-year students might not even make them blink.
But if they captured the top special admission student, it would be different. Not only did he hold symbolic value, but he was a student hand-picked by Neftis, someone Keyzen placed its hopes in and backed fully.
If they could just capture that boy, even Keyzen and Neftis would be forced to negotiate seriously.
“Get him!”
The Hupa warriors began closing in on Simon en masse.
As Simon, looking exhausted, reached to draw Overlord, Maelyn stepped forward.
“Leave it to me.”
The magic circle she had installed on the ceiling was complete.
She closed her eyes and raised her arms in a dramatic stretch, and the magic circle emitted a majestic glow, revealing its brilliant form.
Woooooooom!
Her graceful movements, lowering her arms like a swan, were like watching a performance of Almacarina at the grand theater.
“Just get the hell out of my sight already, you annoying bastards!”
She swung her arms toward the enemies.
<Cruel Blizzard>
BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM!
A reinterpretation of Blizzard using Dark Elemental magic. A black snowstorm burst from the magic circle and began sweeping away the charging Hupa tribe warriors.
“Ughp!”
Even those massive warriors were being buried and pushed back by the blizzard. The sudden snowfall indoors threw everyone into confusion.
“Calm down, everyone!”
Wichasha grabbed a nearby cauldron, lifted it with brute strength, and hurled it at the ceiling. The flying cauldron smashed the ceiling, breaking the magic circle.
With the circle broken, Maelyn staggered as she felt the darkness backflow.
Simon quickly stepped in and supported her by the shoulder.
“The blizzard’s stopped!”
“Now, charge in!”
The Hupa warriors began dashing through the black snowfield.
Despite her pain, Maelyn raised her right hand, but Simon held her wrist down and nodded gently, signaling she didn’t need to.
Simon’s expression was calm.
“?”
Some of the Hupa warriors, sensing something strange, slowed down.
‘The wind… it’s red?’
Wichasha, noticing it faster than anyone else, shouted.
“Damn! Get out of there now—!”
Too late. As the red wind thickened with the scent of blood, the legs of the densely packed Hupa warriors lifted off the ground.
“Wh-what is this?!”
“Gyaaaaaaaaaah!”
FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!
A crimson whirlwind exploded indoors. Everyone and everything caught within its radius—Hupa warriors, rubble, furniture—was swept into the air.
Red blood spun like flower petals, slicing into the Hupa warriors’ skin. Agonized screams erupted from all sides.
“W-what is this?!”
Maelyn asked in a trembling voice. Had they gone just a little farther forward, both of them would’ve been caught in it too.
“Who… who did this?”
"Who else do you think it is?"
Simon smiled and pointed with his fingertip. Through the collapsed wall, Kamibarez was entering, panting heavily.
"...Huff, huff."
While Simon was storming the building, she had been preparing this wide-range haematological magic. Drenched in blood, she raised her palm.
"Please collapse. I won't take your life."
As she said this, she clapped her palms together. With a pop!, the blood-red vortex dispersed, and the warriors caught in the whirlwind were flung in every direction.
Their bodies crashed through wooden walls, slumping lifelessly. Some flew outside onto rooftops or collapsed face-first into the dirt, unconscious.
Nearly twenty men were neutralized in an instant. Wichasha’s expression stiffened completely.
The tide had completely turned.
Step, step, step.
Simon and three others walked forward, red ties fluttering.
They didn’t look like teenagers at all. The overwhelming difference in strength made the Hupa warriors instinctively step back, losing their will to fight.
"S-shouldn’t have messed with Keyzen after all!"
"It’s not just the professors! Even the brats are like this…!"
Screeeech.
"Now then."
Simon stopped and looked at Wichasha, continuing.
"Are you ready to pay the price?"
"......."
A long grin spread across Wichasha’s lips.
"So the world really does rave about Keyzen for a reason. That reputation wasn't for nothing."
He tossed aside the decoration hanging from his shoulder and ripped the lion’s pelt from his head, slamming it to the ground.
"Do you know Professor Hongpeng of Keyzen?"
It was the second time Simon had been asked this question today. But before he could answer, Maelyn snapped back angrily.
"How dare a lowborn mutt like you speak her name so carelessly?"
"Hongpeng and I are both from the same grassland. Before she entered Keyzen, we clashed often. The record is 6 to 6."
Rrrrrrrrumble!
An immense Darkness began to surge from his body.
"Do you think her students, the ones she teaches, can defeat someone who once fought her to the death?"
Lowering his body slowly, he assumed a stance with both hands resting on his knees.
As Simon clenched his fists and took a low stance as well, Maelyn and Kamibarez suddenly stepped forward in front of him.
“?”
Simon looked at them with a puzzled expression.
"Simon! Get back!"
"That guy’s after you."
Maelyn opened her right hand, and Kamibarez curled her hand into the shape of a gun.
BOOM!
Wichasha suddenly charged, causing the floor to cave beneath his weight. Kamibarez immediately fired a bloodshot.
Ting!
Wichasha lightly deflected the projectile aimed at his face with a swing of his arm. At the same time, a magic circle unfurled from Maelyn’s palm.
<Wall of Ice>
Shhhhhaaaaa!
A wide ice wall stretched out, covering the front. Wichasha slammed his fist into it.
CRASH!
With a thunderous sound, more than half the wall shattered, creating a hole. Simon grabbed Maelyn and pulled her back forcefully.
Whoosh!
"Urgh!"
A massive arm burst through the ice, barely missing the air where she had just stood.
CRACKKKK!
Instead of withdrawing his arm, Wichasha dashed sideways, smashing through the ice as he escaped.
"Just like your friends said!"
He then came charging at Simon from the side, like a rampaging bull.
"Capturing you alone is enough to fulfill my objective!"
As Simon calmly stared at the oncoming fist, he tilted his head. With a chilling sonic boom, the punch ripped through the air.
‘He dodged that so easily?!’
As Simon twisted his body, a spinning roundhouse kick came flying in. Wichasha tried to raise his arms for a guard in front of his face.
TWANG!
But he couldn’t move. The rope tension held him in place. Dick had stealthily snuck behind and hooked a rope to Wichasha’s right arm, anchoring it to the wall.
As Dick flashed a V-sign with a cheeky grin, Simon’s shoe sole came flying into view.
CRACKKK!
Wichasha’s nose bridge was crushed, and blood exploded upward. His body twisted to the side.
"Gahhh!"
This time, Maelyn’s left arm moved.
Her specialty—dual casting with both arms. From the magic circle prepared in her left hand, ice gushed out, locking Wichasha into an icy chair just as he tried to launch himself backward.
And into that opening charged Kamibarez, her eyes burning red.
Tap.
A small, dainty fist touched Wichasha’s abdomen. He blinked, wondering what it was, then his eyes went wide.
The blood on her fist had drawn a haematological magic circle on his abdomen.
Clenching her fist tightly again, she drove it straight into the circle.
<Blood Impact>
BOOOOOOM!
As her fist struck the circle, a massive explosion of blood burst out, shattering the ice and launching Wichasha away.
THOOOOOOOM!
He smashed into the wall, and an earth-shaking boom echoed beyond view.
"Nice!"
A wave of loud cheers broke out at once.
Simon and Maelyn high-fived, and Kamibarez exhaled with a deep breath, lowering both arms neatly.
Superb.
