Chapter 626
KWA-RRRRRRRRNG!
Kajan seized the fanatic, and the Chaos Spear Simon had drawn shot toward the fanatic with furious force.
“Kuuhk!”
The fanatic, thrashing violently to break free, stomped hard on the ground. Two spectral arms burst from the earth and grasped the rushing Chaos Spear.
Kakakakang!
But the Chaos Spear did not stop.
Only after the fanatic summoned two more arms to grab it did its output slowly diminish—until the spear finally shattered in the grip of four arms.
“Annoying pests!”
BANG!
The fanatic slammed an elbow into Kajan’s chest. Blood spewed from Kajan’s mouth as he staggered back. Another arm sprouted from the ground and seized his head, smashing it down into the dirt.
“Kajan!”
Simon rushed forward, but—
“You’d better stop right there.”
At her sharp warning, Simon froze and looked upward.
FWAAAAAH!
A massive moon of holiness had appeared in the sky, already too vast to escape even if they ran this instant.
‘When did she conjure that…?!’
Simon turned his gaze. Behind her, ten spectral arms unfurled, each forming elements of a magic circle.
That was how she could engage in hand-to-hand combat while simultaneously casting high-level magic.
“I don’t know why holiness doesn’t affect a necromancer.”
The fanatic sneered, lowering her arm.
“But physical force… is another matter, isn’t it?”
The distorted white moon rumbled as it descended. Simon didn’t flinch—he eyed the spectral arms fueling the spell.
‘If I destroy those arms, the magic will collapse too.’
Simon reached for his waist to draw another Chaos Spear—
CRUNCH!
One of the arms suddenly bore a massive bite mark.
CRACK! RIP!
The once-pristine arm structures were scarred one after another, as if mauled by a beast.
And then it ended. The ten mountainous arms crumbled, and the moon of holiness with physical force vanished with them.
“…What?”
Everyone’s heads turned.
Through the cloud of dirt rising from the shattered arms emerged a young man, cloaked in crow feathers.
“My teeth ache. They’re really grinding.”
Hands shoved in his pockets, he strolled forward with a slouching, delinquent gait.
“A priest in the middle of Roke Island? What kind of joke is this?”
His hair jutted grotesquely like plant leaves, and he chewed lazily on a twig as though he’d just picked it off the street.
‘A Crow Agent!’
Simon sighed in relief. But Kajan, pinned down moments earlier, didn’t look quite so reassured.
“Stay back!”
The priest stepped away, gesturing wildly. More spectral arms erupted from the ground.
“I warn you! If you care about the students’ safety, withdraw—”
The Crow Agent simply chewed on his twig.
CRUNCH!
With that raw sound, droplets of blood splattered. A few streaked down Simon’s cheek.
The priest lowered her creaking head to look at her body.
A vast wound, like a beast’s bite, gaped across her waist. Bone and entrails showed, blood pouring freely.
“My curse has already been triggered.”
The Crow Agent sneered.
THUD!
The fanatic collapsed to her knees. Shaking in disbelief, she reached for her wound.
CRUNCH! RIP!
Both wrists burst open with fresh bite marks. She shrieked in agony.
“You think I’d let you chant a healing spell right under my nose? Cockroaches.”
He advanced, knees kicking high in his odd, swaggering stride, then stomped her head brutally.
BANG!
Her skull rammed into the dirt.
“What possessed you to come to this island? If you’re going to fight me, at least bring a Saint or an Arch Paladin—”
“Enough.”
The Crow Agent turned with a mocking
“Aaang?”
Kajan was staggering back to his feet.
“What the hell? You’re really just a student? And you survived a fight with a priest?”
“Stop talking.”
Kajan, gasping, glared at him.
“Move your foot. We need information from her. Killing her now would be troublesome.”
“Heh—stu-dent.”
The Crow Agent chuckled darkly.
“Students don’t get to order agents around. Got that? Students just study hard, listen to their professors, and that’s it.”
Crk. Crrrk.
He pressed harder with his foot. The fanatic’s face threatened to cave in at any moment.
“Priests are vermin. Why should we heed vermin? If a bug crawls into your house, you just crush it. Who complains?”
THWACK!
Suddenly his foot was knocked aside.
Simon had kicked his leg away, then shoved his chest with his palm.
“I am Simon Follentia, Student Council President.”
Simon froze. She’d expected to topple him—but even with one leg lifted, the man didn’t budge.
“…Evidence risk, so I had no choice.”
“Oh, I see.”
Unexpectedly, the Crow Agent just laughed.
“You’re the Student Council President this year? Impressive.”
“You flatter me.”
“Wait—what was your name again?”
“Simon Follentia.”
“Simon Follentia. Simon Follentia. Simon Follentia. …Where have I heard—ah!”
He clapped his hands.
“Got it! You’re the student my buddy Bahil dotes on so much! That’s it!”
Simon’s eyes widened.
‘Bahil’s colleague? Him?’
“Yes, you’re our friend Simon Follentia. And you know, I’ve got a little problem. Mind listening?”
The Crow Agent clapped Simon on the shoulder.
“My precious colleague Bahil doesn’t hang out with me anymore.”
Crk! Crk! Crk! Crk!
Every nerve in Simon’s body screamed red. A crawling sensation spread over his skin like insects swarming.
“See, Bahil is several times smarter than me and dozens of times crazier. But lately, he only focuses on his professorial duties. It hurts me.”
A sinister fire lit his eyes.
“Bahil belongs on the field. Ordinary people can’t comprehend even a fraction of his genius in the classroom. His brilliance should be spent killing priests. And now? He’s obsessed with one student and ignores me.”
His hollow, empty pupils fixed on Simon.
“If that student were gone… would Bahil come back to us?”
This is dangerous.
Every cell in Simon’s body was screaming.
[Release me, boy!]
Even Feer’s doppelganger whispered the same.
The moment Simon tried to open subspace from an angle the Crow Agent couldn’t see—
“What do you think you’re doing, Quinter?”
A heavy voice reverberated through the air.
“……”
Simon instantly froze, while the Crow Agent, called Quinter, turned his head.
A middle-aged man, also cloaked in the black Crow robe, stood there with a grim, hardened expression. Several necromancer operatives flanked him.
“Ah.”
Quinter lifted his hand off Simon’s shoulder and turned fully.
“I was only counseling my dear Keyzen junior here, senior.”
“Step back, Quinter. Unless you wish to draw unnecessary suspicion.”
At a signal from the newcomer, the other necromancers ran forward and seized the unconscious fanatic by her arms, hauling her upright.
“She’s bleeding heavily.”
“Emergency treatment, immediately.”
The priest was quickly bandaged and transferred via teleportation circle. The senior Crow Agent advanced toward Quinter.
“Why are you here?”
“Why else?”
Quinter chewed his twig with a shrug.
“Protecting Roke Island and Lady Neftis is our Crow duty, isn’t it? I was wandering when I sensed holiness, so I came… and voila.”
“Quinter!”
“But more importantly—who are these men?”
Quinter cut him off, glancing around at the necromancer operatives.
“No alarm sounded in HQ, yet you’d already formed a net around Roke Island like you knew a priest was here in advance.”
“……”
“And then, so smoothly, you carry her away. Hah.”
Quinter spat out his twig. It bounced off his senior’s chest and rolled across the ground.
“This is why the Dark Alliance has problems. Same team, yet so many damned secrets.”
The senior Crow Agent sighed deeply.
“It’s classified. You’ll be briefed later, after the mission.”
“Yeah, yeah. Of course you’ll say that.”
Tak.
Quinter stopped, turned to Simon, and grinned wickedly. Simon shivered without knowing why.
“Hope we meet again. Bahil’s student.”
Fwararararak!
His body scattered into a flock of crows and soared into the sky.
The scene wrapped up, and Simon aided Kajan’s recovery.
He poured multiple doses of a special potion—one effective only on Kajan—over his body. Soon, Kajan was able to rise again, though deep scars remained carved into his flesh.
“Kajan, are you really okay?”
“I’m fine.”
Kajan rotated his creaking arm and rolled his head side to side, bones popping back into place with each motion.
“Well done, both of you.”
The Crow senior who had driven Quinter away approached. Kajan leaned toward Simon and muttered quietly,
“You can trust this one. He serves Lady Neftis.”
“Ah.”
Like Bahil’s fellow Quinter, this man also radiated terrifying strength.
His hair, beard, and mustache were all a uniform reddish-brown. With a solid, imposing build, Simon briefly wondered if he was a Magical Combat major.
Simon shook hands with him.
“Student Council President, Simon Follentia.”
“Call me by the codename Alastair. I’ve already heard much about you from Lady Neftis.”
“It’s an honor.”
Alastair nodded, sighing.
“Thank goodness the fanatic was captured before the full Dark Emperor’s campaign began…”
“The priest just seized—is she truly Ever Kire?”
Kajan abruptly interjected. Alastair wasn’t offended; he only smiled.
“She’s being treated now. We’ll know after interrogation when she wakes. Her appearance is slightly different from the photos, but with her abilities, changing faces is child’s play.”
He turned his head.
“We owe a great debt to the Saint of the Harvest. Where is she?”
“She’s resting after using detection magic.”
“Let’s go.”
* * *
Simon, Kajan, and the Crow Agent moved together toward the beach.
There, under the shade of a parasol, she sat calmly, as though nothing had happened.
“Saint! Sorry to keep you wait—”
Simon broke off mid-sentence.
Something… was wrong.
“…Damn it.”
Kajan spat a curse. Simon dropped to one knee, stricken with disbelief.
Seated at the table, legs elegantly crossed—
—the Saint of Harvest.
Her head was gone, with only the lower half of her face remaining from the jaw downward.
“……”
Her straight scarlet teeth gleamed in a grotesque smile.
And across from her, the other half of her face lay neatly severed, rolling in the sand.
The cut was impossibly clean—undeniably the trace of an ability.
‘The Saint…’
The Saint has been murdered.
Superb.
